Brewing Pumps & Accessories

A brew pump is an important investment that you can get for your home brewing system. With a brewing pump, transferring your wort and recirculating the mash will be faster and more convenient. These will help improve the clarity of the wort that will be fermented. But the benefits of brewing pumps do not stop there. Once the beer has been fermented, it can be used to move the finished product from the fermenter to the keg for the carbonation process. Having said this, it is important to choose the right brewing pump.

There are different types of brewing pumps available for home brewers and these include peristaltic, diaphragm, and centrifugal pumps. Peristaltic pumps work by creating a squeezing action to allow the liquid to pass through the tube. Diaphragm pumps work by increasing and decreasing the pressure in the pump to allow water movement and prevent backflow problems. Lastly, the centrifugal pumps are the most common type of brewing pumps and work using centrifugal action so that the liquid can be taken by the hose and transferred to another container. Aside from choosing the type of pump, home brewers should also make sure that the pump is food grade. Never use a pump that is not designed for brewing beer because it might not be able to handle high temperatures. Another thing to consider is the flow rate. A good brewing pump should have a flow rate of at the most five gallons per minute. If the flow rate is very fast, it may affect the clarity of the beer.
